Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White-Tailed Deer is located along the Columbia River, spanning over 6,000 acres in Washington and Oregon. It was established in 1972 primarily to protect the endangered Columbian white-tailed deer, but its diverse habitat also supports a wide range of wildlife, including Roosevelt elk, river otter, and various birds.
The refuge features a mix of pastures, forested tidal swamps, brushy woodlots, marshes, and sloughs, providing a rich ecosystem that attracts nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
While it is not a traditional beach destination, its natural setting offers scenic views and opportunities for hiking and birdwatching.
